Huckabee jokes about gun pointed at Obama

Add former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to the list of the "What the hell was he thinking?" Club.

In a speech to the National Rifle Association today in Kentucky, the former Republican presidential nominee said (courtesy of a CNN producer):

"We believe that government ought to get its hands off of us as much as possible. we don't need that much of it; we'd like less of it... and we darn sure would like it to be less expensive.

But the reality is and I'm worried because frankly," then he hears some noises off stage responds:

"That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He's getting ready to speak. Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor."

And the room erupted with laughter.

And so it continues...why don't they just take off their hoods and be real?

Awful. I can hear the steam coming from their irons as they sharpen the point on their hoods.

I can't wait till they burn a cross on the White House lawn.

They can sharpen all they want bcause Fire Power will meet Fire Power, in their homes, on the streets, at every venue.

Nobody has monopoly on anything in this nation. We are ready for their game. Not this time!

Fear is their number one weapon. Cowards and invalids use fear.

Bring it on, racists!

This nation is not your mother's private venture.

the nife will go thru their hearts this year 2008

And yet not a peep about this. I've had MSNBC on in the background, and I heard them play and talk about the Tennessee (EDITED to remove the word "really" proud)ad a few times, but this egregious Huckabee thing - not one sound!

This is good that the truth comes out. When one laughs at a serious matter of a black man, it is a sign of hate. Did anyone think that because he is a preacher he would not feel different about a black man. It has been a practice for years. While they were so called christians that would not let us attend church with them and burned houses in between church services, I forgot and had hangings. An old school friend told me, that they would march in their hoods in North Carolina, covering their identity but everyone knew who they were. We know them, they are congressman, senators, governors,tv and radio people(Pat Buchanan did you see his rage with Chris Matthews, Wednesday night), democrats and republicans,Pastors etc.

I used to be an NRA member as a hunter. That fact causes me shame

There is so much evil in this country.....just when we have someone who can uplift us all....what happens...the evilness comes out and starts putting thoughts in some nut's head.....

Ole huck and his cronies may laugh today...but come november Barack Obama will have the last laugh...

As a young black person I think we need to give Huckabee the benefit of the doubt. I believe it was a bad joke made worse...I don't think Huckabee meant anything racial behind it.

Another so-called preacher heard from. Obama has them so uptight they're not hiding their true personalities anymore. God bless Obama. Keep him safe. Obama 08

I didn't expect this from Huckabee.... I don't think he meant for it to come off that way. It was impromptu, so I'm sure he didn't think before saying that.

This remark is way out of line regardless of race. To make that kind of joke about any political leader flanked by secret service is downright despicable, and to make it about the first Black (presumptive) presidential nominee is reckless and utterly disrespectful of our nation's history violent history. Maybe Huckabee meant no harm, but the NRA laughed. Amazing.

I am sorry but there is no excuse for this type of ignorance. He knew exactly what he was saying. I saw the clip several times on MSNBC and this in inexcusable. He could have referenced himself if he wanted to make a joke. Suggesting that somebody is shooting someone is not a laughing matter!!!!

To collegegrad (maybe it was a getyourdegreein6weeks.com "college" you attended/graduated?):
Clearly ole HuckFin's comment didn't have to be about race. Nor did it have to be about trying to solicit a pun-intended laugh from his audience.

The OBVIOUS (to others beside yourself) POINT is that such talk about guns pointed at any Presidential candidate is a SERIOUS matter! Have you even seen the type of protection Sen.BO and the other candidates (in all election years) have had to trail them/watch over their children/wives?!! That type of statement made by a "preacher" of God's holy Word no-less! Wow.
You come off just as ignorant as ex-gov. I'm glad to say I'm not that naive. And I too and a young AA...but I'm keeping close tabs on the "words between the lines"...the message spoken and also unsaid. I pray B.O. DOESN'T get shot at or worse! And you should be praying too!

That sh*t was not funny.

Obama slamed by President Bush was the proverbial "pot calling the kettle black"...~~~~~~~~~~

How “Bush's Grandfather Helped Hitler's Rise to Power” ~~~~~~~~
Rumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today's president ~~~~~~~~

This article appeared in the Guardian on Saturday September 25 2004. ~~ It was last updated at 23:59 on September 24 2004. ~~~~~~~~~
George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany. ~~~~
The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism. ~~~~~~~~
His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy. ~~~~~~~~~
The evidence has also prompted one former US Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator's action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy. ~~~~~~~~~~
The debate over Prescott Bush's behaviour has been bubbling under the surface for some time. There has been a steady internet chatter about the "Bush/Nazi" connection, much of it inaccurate and unfair. But the new documents, many of which were only declassified last year, show that even after America had entered the war and when there was already significant information about the Nazis' plans and policies, he worked for and profited from companies closely involved with the very German businesses that financed Hitler's rise to power. It has also been suggested that the money he made from these dealings helped to establish the Bush family fortune and set up its political dynasty ~~~~~~~~~~~~

There are a number of articles on the web regarding Grandfather Bush's' Hitler connection. I have no confirmation of evidence but the situation is thought. provoking. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~Obama for President!
Ok, earlier I said it was probably just a mistake. But then I saw his lackluster apology. And the more I think about it, the more bothered I am.
This "joke" is way to close to a possible reality. Also I've seen one person point out that if you know about guns, when you point a gun at something, you are going to shoot it.
It just not computing very well for me.
MH comments are very, very disturbing. A man of Christian faith really should have known better. There really isn't any excuse for such a joke. I am deeply concerned and distressed.
"A man of Christian faith really should have known better."
What is special about the Christian faith? Christians are more dangerous, more murderous, and more hypocritical than the people of any other religious faith.
Christianity is a gutter religion, period.
Angelicana...amen!!
Angelicana...amen!!
NOT FUNNY Huckaberry!!...
Just as it is a Federal Offense to threaten a Government Official it should be just as criminal to "joke" about someone shooting one as well..
There are way TOO MANY RACIST LOONIES out there just looking for someone or some thing to give them a reason to assassinate Senator Obama, so to them this kind of " FOOL HARDY BACKWOODS NOT FUNNY BS" gives "them" fuel to justify their motive and their HATETRED!!!!!!!
No Huckaberry, NOT FUNNY IN THE LEAST!!!!
why would such a thought be in the mind of a minister of the gospel? Yes, I know we are all humans, first, but I just don't accept the fact that this guy calls himself a christian & makes a comment about a colleague getting shot! The reason why these thoughts are in his mind is that they have & always will be the thoughts of racist! You can take a racist out of his comfort zone, but you cannot take racism out of his soul!!!
Roland, would you please have someone research this item I found while reading comments on Bill & Hillary's pastor(past or present?):
UTICA -- When the Rev. William Procanick put his hand on the Bible during his sex-abuse trial in Oneida County Court earlier this year, he swore to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
But as the former Clinton pastor was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for inappropriately touching a 7-year-old girl at his home last March, Judge Michael L. Dwyer said Procanick sacrificed his honesty the day he testified.
"As a minister of God, you got on the stand and you lied," Dwyer told Procanick, the 54-year-old former pastor of Resurrection Assembly of God church on Kirkland Avenue.
A jury found Procanick guilty Jan. 22 of first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Is It Hillary's Turn to 'Denounce and Reject' a Problematic Pastor?
As much respect as I had for Mike Huckabee I think he is total idiot!! I have lost all respect for this man and now see why his stupid behind did not win the election.
Boy this white folks sho' can't stand to see black folks have anything. Don't worry racists we are surely taking our rightful places. MOVE OUT THE WAYS HATERS!!!! HERE WE COME!!!!
Is it just me, or is anyone out there thinking that the comments made about Barack and his wife Michelle, are subliminally being made to someone who is meaning to harm them. O'Reilly used the term (lynch) regarding Michelle's comments about being proud of being an American, Huckabee has said "pointing a gun" when joking about Barack and now Hillary has said "assasination in June" though she was talking about Robert Kennedy, is there a message going out to harm Barack in June? I am scared for his family and hope that security will be stepped up. I am praying for Barack and his family, I hope others will do the same.
