Charlie Rangel to speak at DNC? Hell to the naw!
Politico.com is reporting that confidants of Harlem Congressman Charlie Rangel are not happy at all with Sen. Barack Obama after the big-time congressman was told to get in line when he sought a speaking role at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
A major supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton, Rangel was angling for a spot, but the Obamites made it clear that there are many more folks ahead of him who desire to speak at the convention.
But at least Rangel might get to speak before Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee and Stephanie Tubbs-Jones. I hear the Obama camp want nothing to do with the congresswomen from Texas and Ohio. They were such staunch supporters of Clinton that folks, but what really ticked off the Obama folks were some of the comments made by them, namely Tubbs-Jones.
Trust me, Bob Johnson has a better shot of speaking at the convention than she does!

I do not think that Stephanie should speak. She was just tooooooooo adament against Obama (especially at the rules committee) and we are not going to get into the letter that she sent to the superdelagats.
And another thing she is not that great of a speaker I would rather hear Gwen Moore or Baraba Lee. I will be at the convention therefore I do not want to hide my head in shame when a black woman is speaking. Hope to see you there Roland.

Obama aide: Kilpatrick would be a distraction at Democratic convention
Share this article: Del.icio.us Facebook Digg Reddit Newsvine What’s this?
If Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick decides to go to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in 10 days, he would be a distraction from the historic nomination of Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive nominee’s campaign said today.
But Obama staffers wouldn’t go as far as saying Kilpatrick shouldn’t make the trip to Denver.
“We have not said he is welcome or not welcome,” said Brent Colburn, Obama’s Michigan campaign spokesman.
But the convention should be about the economic problems facing the nation overall and Michigan specifically.
“Many Michigan families are struggling as a result of the failed policies and old politics that John McCain wants to continue. The focus of our convention to people back here in Michigan should be on Barack Obama and how the party intends to get America back on track, not a distraction involving the troubles of one individual,” Colburn said in a statement released this afternoon.
Bond restrictions placed on Kilpatrick, in light of 10 felony charges filed against the mayor, had included no travel outside of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. But Circuit Court Judge Leonard Townsend lifted those restrictions so Kilpatrick could go to the convention, which runs from Aug. 24-28.

Kim Coleman:
Unless Obama has released a statement himself saying that he doesn't want Kwame there, it's irresponsible of you to be posting this information, you're just contributing to more drama within the Democratic party. I live in Michigan, and the local media stations here have been out of control on the coverage of Kwame. Michigan is a racist state, it's the most racially segregated state in the country (documented research proves this), and the local media is trying to insinuate to Michigan voters that Obama might be "another Kwame", because he's young and Black. They're trying to use Kwame as an example, as if to say "see what happens when you give a Black man some power?" Roland, I know you're a part of the media and you've stated how you feel about Kwame, but you don't know how pervasive local media stations have been in their pursuit of him.. I am NOT saying that I condone the things that he has done, I don't condone his behavior at all. However, since he was elected mayor, they have followed him everywhere he goes, they followed his wife when she was taking their children to school, they've followed his mother and father, it's been ridiculous. Kwame is not the first elected official to have an affair and lie about it (look at John Edwards), but he is being treated as if he murdered someone. I am too young to really remember when Coleman Young was mayor of Detroit, but from what I've heard the local media was constantly in his face too, but he was much more outspoken about it than Kwame was.

As for the Clinton supporters who want to get some of the spotlight at the convention, I don't blame the Obama campaign for saying no to Stephanie Tubbs-Jones and Sheila Jackson Lee, and even Charlie Rangel. Stephanie Tubbs-Jone's behavior at the rules committee hearing was ridiculous. And they stood by the Clintons even when they were making statements that many could see were attempts at race-baiting in order to take away the support of White voters from Obama. So the Clintons want to use Rangel, Jackson-Lee and Tubbs-Jones to help them get back their popularity among African Americans? Good luck with that. And for the record, I do not believe that the Clintons are racists, but they thought they could get away with engaging in race-baiting and fear-mongering tactics in order to win the nomination.

When I first read this, I was like, HELL NO.
Rangel actually thought he should speak?
Delusional.
Just exactly what did he do to earn a speaking position?
Posted by: rikyrah | August 14, 2008 at 04:34 PM
Obama is right on in not allowing Tubbs-Jones, Jackson-Lee and Rangel to speak. Tubbs-Jones behavior was a joke. She came across as though she had a personal issue with Obama. Listen it's one thing to support Clinton, but they went way past that.

I will go further and add that many old school political leaders need to sit down for this whole convention. This is the time when we shall see Rangel, Jackson, Tubbs-Jones and any other none promise land leader of our civil rights era to enjoy the front row and watch.
Jealousy is an emotion and they are in that pool. I also heard a CNN report that Detroit Mayor will not attend the convention...that is a great move.
Why are many persons like Rangel, Tubbs, Jackson and others (H. and B. Clinton) distracted about their future position and not the policy that could contribute to govern our land. Why not make noise about what initiative you plan to carry out for the education and or etc.?
They Scarred and also out of order...Obama will help to turn their page in history!

Sankofa - reach back to the goodness of the past to bring the strength and wisdom forward. This is of the African tradition. The discard of the elders is a Eurocentric thought and has nothing to add to our advancement as people of African ancestry.

This guy is such a UNCLE TOM, parading around as if he is for black issues. I have seen you on the networks and despise you. Look there are tons of successful blacks who didn't sell out, why did you think it was necessary for you to?
I know trying to educate you on black issue is like giving pearls to a swine. Trying not let you continue to waste your life, and hope that people will see you not as a complete waste of air but someone who can make a difference.
Change your ways, try to embarce issue and ease up on the "UNCLE TOMINIG" (if there is such a phrase).

"And for the record, I do not believe that the Clintons are racists, but they thought they could get away with engaging in race-baiting and fear-mongering tactics in order to win the nomination."
Sheila Jackson Lee handled herself with grace and sensitivity. She never called Obama names or used inflammatory statements. We must give her a break because she was doing her job supporting another democrat.
BUT for Charlie Rangel and Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, what they said and did had me questioning my African heritage. Defending the interests of Hillary is one thing. I have no problem with these people DEFENDING their choice of candidate. However, to go out of your way to make statements and to exhibit behaviors that show you want to RUIN the chances of a black man becoming the president is something else altogether. To use race-baiting against another black person by a black person is something unforgivable, especially when you are in office because of black votes.
To say that the likes of the Clintons, Rangels, Tubbs-Jones, and Andrew Youngs are not racists, is to belittle all honest, hardworking black people. If these people are not racists, then Jesse Helms, David Duke, and the members of Klan are not racists either. At least, David Duke, Jesse Helms, and the members of the Klan did not use the black votes to get into their positions of power.
By promoting the degradation of a black candidate because of his race, you promote the degradation of all black people, including the degradation of my mother and father, and for this, no amount of twisted logic can exculpate the doers. If we do not hold these people accountable now, then we should have nothing to say when another racist uses race-baiting to win election in any part of this country. The only way to stop the nonsense is to make the punishment sever.
If Obama wins, I suggest that all the racist democrats be put into a political grinder and grinded slowly until their political careers bleed to eternal death. They DO NOT deserve to preside over the affairs of a single black person in America.

@Jody Shelia Jackson Lee did make some questionbale statemments at Tavis smileys event and Rev Al quickly and rightfully so SHUT HER DOWN!! She does NOT get a pass and I am all for people supporting who they want but live with the consequences and Roland is not a sell out to the blogger who made that ignorant comment. I did just disagree with him for the 2nd time today about something he said on CNN.

I agree with Jody and want to say that for the record, I do believe that the CLINTONS ARE RACIST and they appear to be getting a free ride by many IN MY COMMUNITY who refuse to call them out for their constant race-baiting and fear-mongering tactics, all in an effort to to win the nomination."

It is funny how we as a race of individuals will put down someone of the same race for trying to do something different - then just as soon as that individual has achieved whatever they were trying to accomplish - the put downers want to be that persons friend. That's what C. Rangle, Tubb-Jones, and S. Jackson - members of the Black Caucas(sp)did when they were so vocal with their anti comments about Obama - and their praises for Clinton. But now that Obama is going to participate in one of the biggest historical event - these three plus others want to be Obama's newest best friend-they want to say they participate in this historical event. I agree with Obama's people - "you didn't know me yesterday -so don't know me today.

I personally never heard Shelia Jackson Lee say anything negative about Senator Obama, but " my name Tobey" Rangel and that LOUD MOUTH "I loves me sum Ms. Hillary" Stephanie Tubbs-Jones were off the chain STUPID!!!.. I hope Rangel gets to say NOTHING!!
As for Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, why shouldnt he attend the convention? Senator Obama will be the person nominated, so THAT's where the focus should be. For those who will be distracted if he were to attend, YOU need to work that out!
Go Obama Go '08

Did Rangel ever find those missing Obama votes from Harlem?
You know, the ones that Bloomberg called fraud on.

i think Mr RANGEL should speak at the convention...
i just would like to feeeeeeeeeeeellllll the pleasure of a T.O.T.A.L silence after his speech i!m sure that he will be able to completely acknowledge exactly what people truly and definitely think about him
I!m sure that after that big moment we won!t hear from him for a Loooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnng time.....

If Hillary, Bill, and Ed Rendell are allowed to speak at the convention, then all the rest of the Hillary supporters should be allowed to speak. If I recall correctly, Representatives Rangel and Lee were not nearly as rabid in their rantings about Barack as Senator Clinton and Representative Tubbs-Jones were. We, as Black people, should not punish our own more than we do other races. Let's be color-blind on this matter. If the theme of this convention is about unity, let's include all under the unity banner. Barack needs to be united with all the people!!!!

Barack does not and will never need the CLINTON OR THEIR UNCLE TOM AND TINA SUPPORTS SO ANY MEMBER OF THE BLACK CAUCUS THAT SUPPORTED HILIARY SHOULD START LOOKING FOR A NEW CAREER NOW - WE MAY BE FORGIVING PEOPLE BUT WE WILL NEVER ACCEPT THE UNCLE TOM AND TINA REGARDS IF THEY LOOK LIKE US.
A SELL OUT IS A SELL OUT AND NOT FORGIVENESS WILL BE GIVEN - WALK OUT OF THE CONVENTION IF ANY OF THESE PEOPLE STEP ONTO THE STAGE THEY ARE A DISGRACE TO OUR COMMUNITY AND HAVE HURT MANY THAT THEY CLAIM TO REPRESENT.

Time for ole school to sit down. Tubbs and Jackson are old bitter woman who live in Hillarys back pocket. Rangel can barely talk. Come on people...lets hear from some new changed politicians.

I agree with Mr. Bond, who commented above on 14 Aug '08. We should not discard our elders. Even though I am a fervent Obama supporter, I will not speak negatively about the Hillary supporters. The race is over.......we all need to forgive, like Jesus told us to do. In order to win this race in November, we ALL need each other. Let's stop the bickering and go forward.

This election should have awaken the black community and show them, "Trust No One". I keep telling you folks to go to your local library and read books on the Clintons, especially Hillary. God bless the soul of the late Barbara Olsen that spelled it out that Hillary is dangerous. Read the book, "Hell to Pay" and "Final Days in the White House". Bill Clinton claims to acknowledge God, however, if this man don't repent, he won't have a second chance of that heart bypass.
